I love Butterfly

I think butterfly is the most beautiful insect in the world. I know these lovely creatures only live for about 2 weeks to 2 months but their live have given the beautiful colors to the world.

Butterfly according wikipedia is any of several groups of mainly day-flying insects of the order Lepidoptera, the butterflies and moths. Like other holometabolous insects, butterflies' life cycle consists of four parts, egg, larva, pupa and adult. Most species are diurnal. Butterflies have large, often brightly coloured wings, and conspicuous, fluttering flight.

Butterflies comprise the true butterflies (superfamily Papilionoidea), the skippers (superfamily Hesperioidea) and the moth-butterflies (superfamily Hedyloidea); all the very many other families within the Lepidoptera are referred to as moths. Butterflies exhibit polymorphism, mimicry and aposematism. Some migrate over long distances. Some butterflies have evolved symbiotic and parasitic relationships with social insects such as ants. Butterflies are important economically as agents of pollination. In addition, a few species are pests, because in their larval stages they can damage domestic crops or trees.

Culturally, butterflies are a popular motif in the visual and literary arts.

Butterfly Park

But recently, especially in a big city, it's hard to find wild butterfly. Like in my town, Bandung - West Java, Indonesia, it's hard to find a really beautiful butterfly with wide and colorful wings. The decreasing of wild butterflies in big cities are caused by pollution, people life style, neighborhood, and circumstances that make the butterfly habitat vanished. Many buildings, few amount of parks, climate change, the rising temperature, and high grow of human population make the butterfly is rare to be found.

Butterfly is a sensitive insect with range of smell for about 15 km, so if the butterfly smells some polution they will move away and looking for a really clean and fresh area to live. That's why some people build butterfly parks. I'm glad there is at least one new butterfly park in my town, still new and just breed about 15 species of butterfly from Papua, South Sulawesi, Bali, and Java but it's a wonderful job and at least bring hope for these species live.

I think Butterfly Park is great for our kids, to give them understanding about wildlife and nature life. Not only kids, we as adults may learn the process of butterfly's life cycle from egg to caterpillars to wing development to pupa and finally the beautiful of adult butterfly. Walking in the middle of wild field with flowers, weeds, fresh air and butterflies are really refreshing and fun. This is wonderful for family's recreation.

Some of butterfly in my area are in Wana Wisata, Curug 7 Cilember West Java and Butterfly Park in Cihanjuang Raya, Cibaligo km 3,3 Bandung Area, West Java, Indonesia.

On those places you may find wild butterfly like Attacus Atlas, butterfly that flies in the night and Troides Helena the yellow and black butterfly. I hope one day there will be many of butterfly parks in my country.

Butterfly Park in Korea

There is also a beautiful butterfly park in South Korea (one of my favorite country lately..). That is Psyche World in Jeju Island. The attraction has over 10,000 butterlys representing some 3000 different species. There is a "crystal house" where the butterfly's fly freely and tourists are able to walk among them.

Also part of the attraction is "Parody World" which has numerous displays of butterfly's, spiders and insects, including some rather curious displays where insects have been dressed up and placed to re-enact various historical events - including the moon landing.

Children are able to handle live animals in "Live world" including hamsters, birds, rabbits and some insects.

Why we visit such kind of parks?

I believe that we as human has to appreciate the nature. Bringing our kids to such kind of parks will make them understand about nature, and hope they will take care of the nature in the future and appreciate life. Children will interact with many kinds of insects, animals, and plants. The children will learn and we may educate them many kind of life process.

As a family, you may have wonderful and relaxing time with each others. There are many butterfly parks that also build an amusement park, sell souvenirs, butterfly museums, you may watch movie about insects and wild life, green houses, food stalls and many more.
