All begin from Veracruz State in South Mexico. Though this case is still presumption, but the first swine flu is suspected begin from pig farm near that state. Now, the Mexican Government focuses the investigation on Granjas Carroll's farm and the little four years old boy that was suspected as the first person who had the swine flu. That boy is reported survive from this flu but the first victim who die was a 39 years old lady from Oaxaca State : Maria Adela Gutierrez a tax census officer that died in April 13.

Now, swine flu is suspected spead all around the world. News from Reuters reported that swine flu has detected in Canada (6 people had), USA (51 people had), Mexico (1600 suspected, 18 had that virus, and 149 died), Norway (1 people suspected), UK (2people had), Spain (26 suspected, 1 had), France (4 suspected), Sweden (5 suspected), Germany (3 suspected), Israel (2 suspected), Australia (19 suspected), New Zealand (10 suspected), and South Korea (1 suspected). I have not heard any report yet from my country (Indonesia) but it could be happen too here. So far, my government put a body temperature scanner in International Airports like in Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, and Medan as a prevention action. If they suspected a passenger with that virus, the person will be quarantine. I hope my government put those scanners in all the airports and ports too, and take all the necessary action to prevent the virus from spreading.

What is Swine Flu anyway ?

Winter, January 1976 in Fort Dix US Army Training Center . A private name David Lewis (18) was died in flu symptoms like dizziness, nausea, tired, fever, and muscle pain. That flu is called swine flu caused by H1N1 virus. Virus H1N1 is the same as subtype influenza A virus that caused a pandemic in the Spain Flu in 1918-1919. 300 other privates was infected with that virus but they survived.
Swine influenza (also swine flu) refers to influenza caused by any strain of the influenza virus endemic in pigs (swine). Strains endemic in swine are called swine influenza virus (SIV).

On August12, 1976 US Congress agreed the "Swine Flu" National Immunization Program that held in the early of October 1976. The mass vaccination program has stopped in the middle of December 1976. That vaccine is suspected may caused hundreds of paralysis cases called Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

The name swine flu is came from Dr Richard Shope from US. He took the pig (swine) snot and spread it to another swine at 1932. At 1933, UK team Wilson Smith and three of his fellows for the first time has isolated the flu virus successfully. In 1935 Dr Shope proved that people who survived from Spain Flu Pandemic in 1918-1919 (after World War I) have the antibodi to his "swine flu", but the children that born after year 1920 does not have the antibodi. He then concluded that flu pandemic like Spain flu pandemic (that killed over 50 million people around the world) is caused by virus with type "swine"

Dr Shope hypothesized that the virus is came from another animal (known later as birds), infected human, and then infected swine by the human. The swine became the hiding place for that virus and one day infect the human again, like what happen these days in Mexico, and some countries like US, Canada, Spain, UK, and Australia.

Swine Flu Symptoms

Sign and Symptoms

Swine flu has similar sign and symptoms as influenza and inlfuenza-like in general. The symptoms include :

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Fatigue and sometime got diarrhea and vomitting.

Prevention for swine flu

The flu virus appears to successfully adapt quite often, at least once every generation of men appear new strain of virus that can lead on human infection. As usual, after the great pandemic that killed hundreds or thousands people, The left alive will have the antibodi that neutralize the hemagglutinin proteins and neuraminidase strain. This will reduce the virus ferocity.

As mention above, the prevention of swine flu can be started from International Airport in each country. With the body temperature scanner that could detect your body temperature if it above normal. It's  not perfect anyway, but it help a bit.

Always wash your hand everytime you come form outside or before doing your activity can help a lot. Wear a mask if you decide to go outside. The government should supply the vaccine and medicines like Tamiflu to help prevent the virus. Keep your neighbourhood clean and healthy. take some vitamin C. If you sneezing, you have to throw the tissue on the garbage or septic bin. If your body temperature beyond normal, you should take the cold medicine immediately.

Last, I have a big hope to our each government to do all necessary things to stop the virus for  spreading and may God Bless us everybody.
