Homemade Mother's Day Scrapbooking Ideas

Mother's Day in Indonesia (Mother's Day = Hari Ibu) is different from Mother's Day that is usually celebrated by people in Europe or USA and most of people in the world. Indonesian Mother's Day is at December 22. We have a fixed date for Mother's Day.

In the beginning, our Mother's Day is not to express love or gratitute for our mothers for their motherhood roles. Don't get me wrong, it's not that the motherhood roles are not important, but Indonesian people used to think that motherhood is a woman's nature.

Indonesian Mother's Day is originally to celebrate the spirit of Indonesian women as Mother of the Nation. Implies that women do not only have domestic and social roles, but women also have a political roles to educate and raise a good generation.

But nowadays, we begin to add more meanings to our Mother's Day and start to make celebration, surprise parties, give the mothers presents, and allowing mothers to have their day off from household chores.

Actually, not many Indonesian women are really have their day off, many of us are still working on that day. Also, there are many Indonesian women who never realize that it is Mother's Day. So, we still learn how to really appreciate mothers. Kindergartens and Sunday schools are starting to teach the children how to express their love to their moms.

One way to express our love is with scrapbooking like what the children used to do.

Scrapbooking is a new thing in my country, not like in US or Europe who are familiar with scrapbooking since early 1900. We just start learning and enjoying this art.

Scrapbooking is a very unique art, a do-it-yourself art, it's a medium for storing memories in our special life moments. It can be opened at any time, enjoyed with families and friends, and stimulating creativity. I'm not a crafty person myself, but I enjoy making one or two pieces of scrapbooking about special people in my life.

Most of scrapbooking shops in my country are in big cities like Jakarta and Bandung.

I never realized this, but actually, since I was in primary school, I enjoyed sticking photos in my drawing books and add stickers, ribbons, etc. And scrapbooking is similar with it, only you have to arrange the theme, composition, and etc.

Scrapbooking about mother is really enjoyable. For one of the most important woman in our life, why don't we make several pieces of sweet memories for our mom.

First thing is photo, photo and photo, a lot of photos. Collect photos of our mom, as many as you can and start arranging story about it. What kind of story we'd like to develop about our mom, a loving and care mom, a though mom, a funny and smart mom, mom my best friend, mom as 24 hours doctor in our house and many more, just use the creativities we have.

Then, choose the layout and font. We have many free scrapbooking's layout from the internet and you can choose one that suitable.

We can choose our mom's favorite color and add her favorite images, for example, my mom is a dog lover, so my sisters and I always choose a dog-theme for everything we make or buy for our mom. And she never say no to the dog-theme.

Use double tape to avoid damage to your photos and use an 'acid-free' paper because it will be more durable and won't turn into yellow.

We can also add things around us like dried leaves, buttons, cute images from paper-wrapper, recycled materials, etc  Just be creative and green.

Avoid excessive use of accessories, for the main idea of the scrapbooking is your memories. So the photos are the 'main character' in it.
