As a citizen from a country that often experiences earthquakes, the disaster in Haiti made me so sadden. I hard to believe that more than 200,000 lives were dead and more live in fear, starving and almost without hope.
Only 700 miles off the coast of Florida, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and the third hungriest country in the world. 80% of the population lives below the level of absolute poverty. One out of 8 children will not live to see their 5th birthday. Malnutrition strikes 3 out of 4 children. Malnutrition, respiratory infection and diarrhea are the leading causes of childhood death.
Less than half of the population has access to health care. There are 3,970 babies born infected with the HIV virus each year, over 11 each day. The average life expectancy is age 50 and over half of the population is illiterate.
Haiti condition
This disaster made Haiti like a hell, most of their public buildings and services were destroyed. There was major damage to Port-au-Prince. The buildings of the finance ministry, the ministry of public works, the ministry of communication and culture, the Palace of Justice, the Superior Normal School, the National School of Administration, the Institut Aimé Césaire, Parliament, and Port-au-Prince Cathedral were damaged to varying degrees. The National Palace was severely damaged. The quake seriously damaged the control tower at Toussaint L'Ouverture International Airport. The Port-au-Prince seaport also suffered a great deal of damage.
Towns west of Port-au-Prince, such as Jacmel, Carrefour, Léogâne, Petit-Goâve, and Gressier were reported to have extensive and perhaps catastrophic damage. They were furthermore isolated by debris blocking connecting roads and unable to receive supplies that were slowly getting into the capital.
The communications connection, manufactoring, apparel industry and many more also had a sever damaged.
Many Haitian people slept in the streets, on sidewalks, in their cars, because their houses had been destroyed. And through experience, children will be the most suffering victims. What happened here was a child's nightmare. Children are so fragile and I remembered that my child also caught in fear when we had an earthquake last year. Many International Organization are ready to help and make a donation for Haiti victims specially children, one of it is Plan.

This Organisation helps many children in my country during earthquake in Padang West Sumatra Indonesia and many devastated calamities trough out my country. They help us with health and sanitation repairments after the disasters and help to supply educationals tools for the children and many more.
Plan in Indonesia has many plans like :
- Improving children's welfare by increasing family income and food security
- Building secure, safe and healthy environments for children
- Helping children, youth and adults learn and develop life skills
- Ensuring children's survival, protectio and healthy development
Programme Units in my country include these areas : Dompu, Lembata, Surabaya, grobogan, Rembang, Kebumen, Sikka, Kefamenanu, and Soe.
Early this year Plan has donated health and educational tools and help people in Padang West Sumatra build houses and sanitary services. One of their volunteer including a Korean movie star Mr. Nam Gil Kim who's pretty famous in my country due to his remarkable role in Queen Seon Deok drama series. I think this organisation has heart for children and definitely safe if we'd like to make some donation or be a volunteer.
Hope this kind of organisation could help children trough out the world to gain a better standard of life and health.

The Haiti disaster is horrific and the loss is unimaginable. My heart also goes out to you and your family having to live in fear of earthquakes. Living in Canada I cannot relate to such terror. Children all over the world are our future and need to be cared for. I hope and pray that an abundant response for relief brings about a quick recovery and hope for a bright future.
