United States still become number one as the main destination of studying abroad for students all around the world. Even in this recession condition, the Indonesian Student that interested in studying in the US is increase. About 50 to 60 universities in US  are in the top 100 highest rank university in the world, that's one of the reason why our students are really interested to study in US. In fact, there are 2,474 universities (629 public and 1,845 private) in US so many choices. Studying in US need a lot of money, approximately each student will need $10,000 for tuition fee per year. Have not mentioned the living costs like housing, transportation, meal, and entertainment costs like vacation yet. After the tuition fee, cost for accomodation or housing is the most important thing that a student should think first. So, they have to calculate the cost seriously.Finding cheap apartment is an advantage.

Of couse, international student could stay in the college dormitory but if you'd like to have your own freedom and privacy (specially if you studying with your family or spouse accompanied) or want to experience the real life in the country, you could rent an apartment.

For a single student, you could choose a shared apartment to save the cost. You could choose the fully furnished, partly furnished, or unfurnished apartment. The lease contract usually about 6 months to one year long. So, you have to calculate your budget first, don't forget to calculate the utilities like electricity, gas, water bill, phone and internet connection too. The rent fee is about $ 700 to $ 1,000 per month depend on what state you're studying.  If you stay with your family or spouse, shared apartment is not the choice. You could choose partly furnished apartment with single or double bedroom but choose the least expensive one.

Consider about the distance from the university to your apartment and what kind of public transportation you could use, or you have to buy a car too. That will make you extra costs in gas.

Try to find the local apartment agent to help you decide the right apartment for your condition.

Tell your college friends that you need a cheap apartment. International students usually have information about the cheapest way to live in high cost country like US. Search from your local student newspaper or in college bulletin board. 

Search for cheap apartment online, sometime you will find a great apartment in site like craiglist in very affordable price. But think also the safety of your apartment neighborhood.

It's the same way to search apartment for student or another citizen, but if you have dissability you have to consider the apartment facility. Does the apartment has a suitable elevator for people in wheelchair for example. How about the apartment bathroom, is it suit for you or not.

You could ask the HUD (Housing and Urban Department) for help to find suitable but not expensive apartment for people in disability.

Consider the neighborhood situation too. Including the public transportation and area that support people with disability, specially when you live alone. Consider the safety first.
