What is Detoxification ?

Have you ever think that we never give our body a chance to rest? You may "rest" your body by doing detoxification. Do you have constipation problems, fever, cold or flu, excess weight, cellulite, excessive blood cholesterol levels, skin disorders, some chronic diseases, premenstrual syndrome, loss of sex drive, premature aging, tumors, digenerative diseases (hypertension, stroke, coronary heart disease, diabetes, etc..), and maybe some infections that do not go away? The problems may cause by toxins inside our body.

The toxins came from the foods, food additive substances, polluted air and water, from pesticides, residues of pharmaceutical drugs, cosmetics, even negative thoughts and emotions are also toxic to the cells of our body. But toxins are also produced naturally by our own body. This is the metabolic process and we can not avoid that.

So, all the toxins must be removed from the body. How ? One thing that I really like to do is by detoxification.

Detoxification is the expenditure toxins process or substances that are toxic from our body. Fasting is also one effective method of detoxification. Cleansing and detoxification enhance the natural process of toxin expenditure from our body.

In detox diet, we have to stop consuming our daily meal and solid food and replace it with vegetables and fruits juice. Most of the foods we consume are trigger foods like red meat, this food is a trigger food because it hard to digest and it may contain of hormon and antibiotics. If we consume such foods, actually our body is suffering. There are many enzymes that must be produced to digest foods and process a variety of materials that won't be absorbed.

Detoxification make our digestive system to rest in order to be perform more better. Just like a car that needs to be tuned up.

Preparation before the detoxification

Time we need for detoxification is 7 to 40 consecutive days, depend on each condition of the person. You have to train yourself first. The 3 days detoxification is just a practice. Because the process of toxin own expense just started on day 3. And for those interested in running detox more than 7 days should do first medical consultation with a doctor or nutritionist who mastered detox therapy.

Prepare your body to more easily adapt to detox therapy, 1-2 weeks prior to your detox program should begin:

  • Reduce high-fat foods, such as fried foods, food using coconut milk like rendang or curry, animal proteins (including dairy cattle), and refined carbohydrates especially those that contain flour and white sugar (including sodas).
  • Limit salt
  • Avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and medications that do not need
  • Avoid all types of industrial processed food (canned, instant, etc.)

Pre-diet is also beneficial detox reduce detox reaction which cause discomfort. Trying to 'steal' the opportunity to consume restricted food / beverages, can inhibit the detoxification process that is running for several hours.

Benefits of Detoxification

Some benefits of detoxification including :

  • Rejuvenate skin cells until it becomes clean, healthy, tighter, and soft.
  • Reduces excess body weight.
  • Increase energy.
  • Increased senses smelling, taste, and hearing.
  • Decrease of tumor (if any).
  • Launch blood circulation
  • Improve the brain power to remember.
  • Removes symptoms such as allergies, headaches, bloating, etc..
  • Improves blood sugar and blood pressure.
  • Improve the function of liver and kidney.
  • Enhancing the body immune system.

How to do the detox

There are several detoxification methods that are often done today. Starting from the natural like fasting until using some herb supplements or certain medicines. A good detox program should be able to:

  •     Normalize the pH level (acidity) of the digestive system
  •     Lighten the burden on pancreatic enzyme function
  •     Launched the work of gallbladder.
  •     Reduce fat and blockages in the liver
  •     Build the intestinal flora
  •     Launch mucus and waste disposal from the intestinal wall to absorb nutrients better
  •     Remove dirt that clog the gastrointestinal tract (note: a blockage in the intestines can lead to colon cancer)
  •     Stimulate intestinal peristaltic more smoothly for disposal
  •     Clean the blood
  •     Clean the urinary tract and improve the balance of body fluids
  •     Lymph circulation
  •     Opens the skin pores
  •     Remove mucus from the lungs and respiratory launch

It usually takes 6 - 12 months to achieve all that, and also very dependent on the conditions and the toxicity of each individual discipline.

The most easiest and safest detox method is juice fasting. You just consume the fresh fruits juice all day long in certain potion. This diet is safe for everyone except for children, underweight person, pre and post operation, person who has low body immune, pregnant woman, breast-feeding, people with cancer, heart disease and peptic ulcers. Please do not take the detoxification if you're in such conditions, it could be dangerous and you have to ask your doctor first.

Rest and relaxation is very important in detoxification programs. If you're still busy with work and other activities, should not do detox. The rate of metabolism of the body during detox will decrease, as well as body temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory tract. This is because the body's natural processes will make energy savings and most of the energy will be more concentrated for the disposal of toxins.

The process generates toxic discharge also make some uncomfortable reactions in the body, which is medically known as withdrawal symptoms (withdrawal symptoms). Some symptoms like pain or withdrawal symptoms in drug users who are undergoing cleanup program. In contrast, in ideas of natural medicine, this phenomenon is called a healing crisis (healing crisis). These symptoms usually appeared on day 3 since the start of detox programs. Symptoms that were usually only appear one day. Except for flu-like symptoms (spending through respiratory secretions) are usually lasted longer.

A few days after that we started feeling hungry again, although occasionally appears as thought disorder certain foods when the stomach is not hungry.

Some of the healing crisis :

  • Fever or flu symptoms
  • Diarrhea or the contrary you will get the constipstion
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Headaches or migraines (usually in smokers and alcohol drinkers)
  • Nausea or bloating
  • Many out ripples or mucus
  • Itching or acne (if you previously had problems with skin
  • Bad breath and appeared a thick layer on the surface of the tongue
  • Easy to feel cold (because of decreased body temperature)
  • Emotional disturbances (irritability or emotional)

There are 2 mechanisms used by the liver to remove toxins. The first part of the detox, called phase 1, is to convert toxins into fat-soluble form. Naturally fat will soon tie the toxins that enter the body. Therefore, the toxin must first be released from fat tissue.

The second part, called phase 2, changing the toxins into water-soluble form so that toxins can be excreted through the gastrointestinal tract and urine. With this mechanism, there would be no poison or remaining stuck in the tissue, including brain tissue and central nervous system. Toxins will come out slowly through the bloodstream. At this time the symptoms are usually felt like a disease, this is the symptoms of healing crisis.

Type of fruits for detoxification

Only 5 to 6 types of fruits that's usually been  used for detoxification : Papaya, apple, mango, watermelon, pineapple, and orange or lemon.
Choose fresh and ripe fruits. Try to choose organic fruits if possible.

The type of fruits to consume has to be the same for the whole day, for instance, you have the apple juice for one day, next day you may take the pineapple juice. Nothing special, only to make the arrangement of body pH more easier.

For example,
Every time you wake up, drink 1 glass of water with lemon.
Start from 7 o'clock consume 1 glass of fruit juice every 2 hours. Total you have to consume 7-8 glass of juice per day.
Drink mineral water as plenty as you can among the juices.
