Old town Stirling is the most historical old town in Scotland, which also still have old building from 12th centuries and had also been Scotland's capital city. This town it so important because it become gateway from the plains region to the highland region of Scotland, like to the City of Inverness.
You may experience past nuance of town and panoramic countryside in Stirling town. There are at least two sites to visit when you visit Old town Stirling, the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle.
Wallace Monument
Travel to Old town Stirling will be more complete if you visit the Wallace monument. Located in the northern part of Stirling. this monument is very clear from the various corners of the city because it was built on one hill town of Stirling.
This monument was built as a tribute to William Wallace who successfully led the Scots in one major battle, where Scotland (under the impression Williams Wallace) defeated the British in the struggle for Scottish independence, moreover in this monument you can find complete information about the Battle of Stirling Bridge and important people of Scotland. From this location we can also see the beauty scenery of old town Stirling city from various angles.

Stirling Castle
Stirling Castle is located in the center of Stirling city, towering on a hill. From top of this castle, you may enjoy the breathtaking scenery around Stirling city with Fort river on the other side of the city. This castle was built by King David I in 1130, whose function is to be defense fortress from the enemy attack. One of the most visited tourist location. Gorgeous castle which lies strong on top of a hill, and can be reached from all around the Stirling city.
Throughout the history, since the castle had been established, noted that the castle was once surrounded and attacked 16 times. The fort is a silent witness of the battle and fight to defend the city of Stirling from enemy attack, thousands of soldiers became victims. One of the most spectacular battle is a battle that was led by William Wallace against the English troops.
More of that, the same old fort is the site for the procession of the Scotland Queen and King's baptism, or coronary, and even died in or around Stirling.
The Stirling Castle consists of : The Great Hall, was built around 1501 and 1504 by King James IV, then the King's old Building, as the tallest building (built by James IV, in 1496).
The Palace which was built by King James V in 1538. Now this location is closed temporary for renovation program until year of 2011. Another building inside the fort are Royal Chapel, built in 1594 by King James VI, Prince Henry (King James VI son) had baptism in this place. You may enjoy some tea and coffee inside this fort and there are also many souvenirs shops for tourists.
How to reach Stirling
Very simple, if you want to visit Stirling, you may drive from London to Stirling. By air, it can be reached from London to Stirling, or Edinburgh to Stirling, or Glasgow to Stirling.
You may take the train too, from Glasgow to Stirling or Edinburgh to Stirling.
The farthest way is from London to Stirling, it takes about 8 hours by car. But from Edinburgh is just about 50 minutes and 30 minutes from Glasgow.
If you've decided to visit Stirling from London by bus, you may experience quite different atmosphere changing. From metropolitan city that is busy, to mountainous scenery, valleys, lakes, and countryside which is so calm and green.

Thanks Stirling was granted city status a few years ago however - you also never mentioned the The Stirling Bridge - the nearby heritage centre at Bannockburn. The chapel has been restored at the Castle of late.
